Retirement Home

Aging in Christ: Great Bible Verses for the Elderly (Part 4)

I was always a bit amused at folks who yearned for retirement so that they could “do what they want to do.” What I observed is that once they did reach that old-age-retirement phase, they started complaining about aches and pains. I could write a book about that!

Many think that being “old” means you are deteriorating and your expiration date is near. Changing vision, hearing aids, bladder and other gastro conditions open a whole world of dietary and nutritional issues. Joint problems and dentures are all really annoying and tiresome.

The truth is, as you grow older, you’ll have to expect a lot of changes in your body, but that doesn’t mean life will be meaningless and boring. Even if you 80-years-old or nearing 60, as a Christian, you are always called to stand firm in faith and trust God’s word.

Bible Verses for Strength

Bible Verses for Strength

God is our refuge and strength, an ever-present help in trouble. Therefore we will not fear, though the earth give way and the mountains fall into the heart of the sea, though its waters roar and foam and the mountains quake with their surging.[c] There is a river whose streams make glad the city of God, the holy place where the Most High dwells. God is within her, she will not fall; God will help her at break of day. Nations are in uproar, kingdoms fall; he lifts his voice, the earth melts. The Lord Almighty is with us; the God of Jacob is our fortress.”

– From Psalms 43: 1-7

“So do not fear, for I am with you; not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.”

– From Isaiah 41: 10

“Do not fear, for I have redeemed you; I have called you by name, you are mine. When you pass through the waters, I will be with you; and through the rivers, they shall not overwhelm you; when you walk through fire you shall not be burned, and the flame shall not consume you. For I am the Lord you God, the Holy One of Israel, your Savior.”

– From Isaiah 43:1-3

“Do not worry about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.”

– From Philippians 4:6

“The LORD is my light and my salvation whom shall I fear? The LORD is the stronghold of my life— of whom shall I be afraid? When the wicked advance against me to devour me,it is my enemies and my foes who will stumble and fall.Though an army besiege me, my heart will not fear;though war break out against me,even then I will be confident.”

– From Psalm 27: 1-3

Calming Verses About Patience

Calming Verses About Patience

“You also must be patient. Keep your hopes high, for the day of the Lord’s coming is near.”

– From James 5:8

“Gray hair is a crown of splendor; it is attained in the way of righteousness. Better a patient person than a warrior, one with self-control than one who takes a city. The lot is cast into the lap, but its every decision is from the Lord.”

– From Proverbs 16: 31-33

“But this is why I was shown mercy, so that Christ Jesus could show his endless patience to me first of all. So I’m an example for those who are going to believe in him for eternal life.”

– From 1 Timothy 1: 16

“We’re praying this so that you can live lives that are worthy of the Lord and pleasing to him in every way: by producing fruit in every good work and growing in the knowledge of God; by being strengthened through his glorious might so that you endure everything and have patience.”

– From Colossians 1: 10-11
