Encouraging Bible Verses: Remembering the Power of Gospel During Alzheimer’s and Dementia (Part 2)

Alzheimer’s and Dementia are an extraordinarily frustrating experience; not only for the person who is undergoing it, but also for the loved ones. Patients experience a complete loss of mental and emotional control and caregivers have to sacrifice their own quality of life to take care of these patients.

During this storm of life, one can only seek refuge in God’s promises.

From Proverbs 17:22:

From Proverbs 17:22“A cheerful heart is good medicine, but a crushed spirit dries up the bones.”

From Psalm 1: 1-3:

“Oh, the joys of those who do not follow the advice of the wicked, or stand around with sinners, or join in with mockers. But they delight in the law of the Lord, meditating on it day and night. They are like trees planted along the riverbank, bearing fruit each season. Their leaves never wither, and they prosper in all they do.”

From Psalm 28: 1-2/6-9:

To you, Lord, I call; you are my Rock, do not turn a deaf ear to me. For if you remain silent, I will be like those who go down to the pit. Hear my cry for mercy as I call to you for help, as I lift up my hands toward your Most Holy Place… Praise be to the Lord, for he has heard my cry for mercy. The Lord is my strength and my shield; my heart trusts in him, and he helps me.My heart leaps for joy, and with my song I praise him. The Lord is the strength of his people, a fortress of salvation for his anointed one. Save your people and bless your inheritance; be their shepherd and carry them forever.”

From Psalm 118: 1-8/14-17/21:

“Give thanks to the Lord, for he is good; his love endures forever. Let Israel say: “His love endures forever.” Let the house of Aaron say: “His love endures forever.” Let those who fear the Lord say: “His love endures forever.” When hard pressed, I cried to the Lord; he brought me into a spacious place. The Lord is with me; I will not be afraid. What can mere mortals do to me? The Lord is with me; he is my helper. I look in triumph on my enemies. It is better to take refuge in the Lord than to trust in humans….The Lord is my strength and my defense[a]; has become my salvation…Shouts of joy and victory in the tents of the righteous: “The Lord’s right hand has done mighty things! The Lord’s right hand is lifted high; the Lord’s right hand has done mighty things!” I will not die but live, and will proclaim what the Lord has done…I will give you thanks, for you answered me; you have become my salvation.”

From Psalm 23: 1-4/6:

From Psalm 23: 1-4/6“The Lord is my shepherd, I lack nothing. He makes me lie down in green pastures, he leads me beside quiet waters, he refreshes my soul. He guides me along the right paths for his name’s sake. Even though I walk through the darkest valley,[a] I will fear no evil, for you are with me; your rod and your staff, they comfort me…Surely your goodness and love will follow me the days of my life, and I will dwell in the house of the Lord forever.”

From Psalm 91: 1-7:

“Whoever dwells in the shelter of the Most High will rest in the shadow of the Almighty.[a] I will say of the Lord, “He is my refuge and my fortress, God, in whom I trust.” Surely he will save you from the fowler’s snare and from the deadly pestilence.

He will cover you with his feathers, and under his wings you will find refuge; his faithfulness will be your shield and rampart. You will not fear the terror of night, nor the arrow that flies by day, nor the pestilence that stalks in the darkness, nor the plague that destroys at midday. A thousand may fall at your side, ten thousand at your right hand, but it will not come near you.”
